Definition of Qualitative Research:
"Qualitative research is the collection, analysis and interpretation of comprehensive narrative and visual data in order to gain insights into a particular phenomenon of interest. It aims to promote a deep understanding of a particular phenomenon, such as process and belief."
(Gay, Mills & Airasian, 2006)
Research Process:
1. Identify a research topic
2. Review the literature
3. Select participants
4. Collect data
5. Analyze and interpret data
6. Report and Evaluate
Features:
1. Focus on individual and interpersonal interactions.
2. Avoid making premature decision and assumption.
3. Include voices of participants.
4. Sources of data are real-world situations. .
5. Data is narrative in nature.
6. Data are analyzed inductively
7. Provide clear, detailed information reflecting participants' voices
Validity and Reliability:
Validity is the degree to which the qualitative data we collect accurately gauge what we are trying to measure. Strategies include talk a litte, listen a lot, observations and write accurately.
Reliability is the degree to which study data consistently measure whatever they measure.

Are interviews going to be conducted on both UK library and HK library staff? Thanks.

This seems to be a very thorough study and I wonder about the timeframe involved.

Thank you for your preseantion.
I would like to know why do you choose the libraries in UK as "samples" to compare with the HK academic libraries?
Phoebe Leung
Ronda,
FOllowing Phoebe Leung's line of thoughts, I think you should choose libraries that are similar in setup, in number of students, in library collection etc in order for the comparison to be meaningful.
